Thursday late afternoon we left for Hamburg, where we stayed overnight in a hotel. With a long weekend ahead of us, we decided to leave Thursday evening so we could enjoy Ballum camping as long as possible. We travelled with friends who have a 4-year-old son, Ivo's best friend. After a communal breakfast, we continued our journey to Ballum camping.

Warm welcome by the campsite owners

On the way to the campsite, you experience peace, space and nature. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly campsite owners, Klaas and Linda. After checking in, we went to our safari tents near the playground. The children immediately dove into the playground while we unpacked our stuff. Then we enjoyed a cup of coffee on the veranda overlooking the children playing. Perfect for keeping a close eye on them!

Exploring the surroundings by foot

When the boys had finished playing, we did a walking route which we had found on the app of Ballum Camping. The walking trails run through cornfields with fantastic views of the Wadden Sea. There are benches along the routes where you can take a rest and we even saw crabs by the water! The boys had a great time during the walk with all the nature finds along the way. After our walk, we were pretty tired and decided to make use of the campsite's pizza takeaway service.

From Viking town to beach fun

The next morning, we collected rolls from reception, which we had easily ordered the day before via the camping app. The sandwiches were really delicious and there was a good variety of breads and delicacies. After breakfast, we went to the Viking town of Ribe. It's a nice town to visit with a great variety of museums and nice shops. As the weather was nice, we then drove to the Wadden Island of Rømø. What was really super cool is that you can drive straight onto the beach by car. There we went kite flying, built sandcastles and also saw crabs.

Barbecuing and watching the European Championship

Once back at the campsite, we made all preparations to have a barbecue. The safari tents all have a barbecue at their disposal (weather permitting). Once again, the boys went to play with other kids in the playground.  We were at the campsite during the European Championship with the men enjoying watching the match in the common room at the campsite.

From fresh fish to delicious pancakes

After a leisurely start the next morning, we left for the other part of the Wadden Island of Rømø where we had lunch at Otto & Ani's Fisk. For all those who like fresh fish, this is the ideal place. After this, we had a lovely afternoon on the beach.

When we returned to the campsite in the late afternoon, there was a pancake food truck in the playground. We ordered pancakes and ate them deliciously in the sun at the picnic table. The pancake stand comes to the campsite a few times a year, a nice initiative. The boys played on the air trampoline and in the sandpit for a while and then it was time for dinner in the evening at a restaurant in Tønder.

The perfect destination for nature lovers and families

We had a lovely Sunday evening relaxing on our veranda, hearing so many birds singing. The next morning, we packed everything and got ready to leave. Unfortunately, our mini holiday was over again and we definitely have the desire to come back to Ballum camping again. For all nature lovers and families with children, this is the perfect destination.
