Nearby sights in Groningen
The martinitoren: Since its construction, which started in 1469, The Martini tower located on the Grote Markt (Grand Market) in Groningen has burned down, struck by lightning and has been on the verge of collapsing. The tower also has been silent witness throughout the ages to numerous battles that have been fought in front of it. Despite all these events, the tower survived and still is the highest building in Groningen. Climb the stairs of this tower and get in touch with all the unique history it has.

The Vismarkt: While visiting this bustling market you can hear the market man shout their sales slogans while cyclists find their way among the pedestrians. Enjoy some Dutch specialty foods like fresh fries with mayonnaise or fried cod better known as kibbeling while you gaze on the many historic mansions surrounding this bustling market square. Also worth visiting is the unique supermarket established in the historic building called the Korenbeurs which was built in 1774. This building is located on the Vismarkt and acted as a trading point for wheats throughout the ages.

Groninger museum: Some find this building ugly and some find this building a masterpiece. One thing is sure and that’s that this building radiates creative energy since it’s completion in 1994. This building still is a subject of debate on modern architecture. That alone should be enough reason to pay it a visit. In addition it’s versatile collection and exhibitions which both are innovative and stimulating make your visit to this museum hard to forget.
