Immerse yourself in history at Château d'Angers

Château d'Angers is a beautiful castle in the town of Angers, located on the banks of the river Maine. Built in the 13th century, the castle was occupied for much of its time by the Dukes of Anjou. In the 14th century, one of those dukes commissioned a huge tapestry, the Tapisserie de l'Apocalypse. A 103-metre-long tapestry, it depicts the Day of Judgement. This tapestry is one of the highlights of Château d'Angers. The castle consists of 17 huge towers connected by walls. Beyond are beautiful gardens with flowerbeds, hedges and fountains and a moat. Highly recommended! After visiting the castle, you can also definitely spend a few hours in Angers. A cosy town with the largest flower markets in France.

Le Puy du Fou is an extraordinary amusement park, located in the Vendée region. It is the perfect getaway for families and it gives you the chance to take a peek into the past. The theme park is not like other amusement parks, as it consists almost entirely of shows. All sorts of shows are staged in impressive open-air theatres, dealing with knights, vikings and gladiators.

Château de Brissac is a beautiful castle in the department of Maine-et-Loire and is just 15 kilometres from the town of Angers. The castle is built on a green hill and has 7 floors. This makes it the highest castle in France, so it is very impressive and imposing. Part of the castle is open to the public. For example, you can admire the dining hall, several galleries and the beautiful theatre. Your visit ends in the cellar, where you can taste the delicious wines grown near the castle. After touring the castle, be sure to make time for the beautiful gardens as well. Château de Brissac is surrounded by green hedges, colourful flowers and beautiful fountains.

Vouvant is a beautiful little village situated on a green hill, on the banks of the river Mère. It is one of the most beautiful villages in France. The place seems to have stood still in time and you can walk right back into the Middle Ages. Vouvant is still largely surrounded by the old city walls and you will find many remains of the medieval fortress. The stone houses are characterised by painted shutters and beautiful flowers. The streets are connected by squares and alleys and are full of quaint cafés and art studios.
