The charming town of Vimmerby in northern Småland is a playful and lively destination. It is the birthplace of Astrid Lindgren, the world-famous and beloved children’s book author. Her stories have touched people all over the world, and it was here, in the small town of Vimmerby, that her extraordinary writing talent began. There is plenty to see and do in the footsteps of Astrid Lindgren. How about experiencing the fairy tales in real life? Just a stone’s throw from her childhood home lies the theatre park Astrid Lindgrens Värld. Here, fairy tales come to life. Walk through a beautiful setting and meet Pippi, Emil, Ronja the Robber’s Daughter and many other characters. Theatre performances based on the stories take place several times a day. How about an elk safari? A fantastic experience for both young and old. Travel through the elk’s natural habitat in an open vehicle and get the chance to see these impressive animals up close. Or perhaps you would like to cycle along an old railway line. Depending on how much time you have, you can choose from several routes along the Smalspåret. The Vimmerby Adventure Park is also highly recommended: an activity park featuring, among other things, a climbing park and the longest zipline in Scandinavia (450 metres).
