Going on holiday with your dog and spending plenty of time in nature? Marit went on a road trip with her dog Kyra, a friend and her friend's two dogs. During their journey, they mainly slept in their cars, but for a little extra comfort they stopped at Camping Vallée de l’Our, on the border between Luxembourg and Germany, where they stayed for two nights.
From sleeping in the car to a fully equipped safari tent surrounded by nature: a real touch of luxury during their road trip! But what is it like to go glamping with three dogs? Marit takes you along on their stay and shares her experience of the campsite, the surroundings and travelling with dogs.

Marit and her friend stayed in a luxurious 4-person safari tent with a private bathroom.
“After several nights sleeping in the car, having our own bathroom felt like a real luxury! The location of our tent was also perfect: right next to the agility field, where the dogs could run around and play.”
Another thing Marit particularly enjoyed was the small-scale and peaceful atmosphere of the campsite: “The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Everyone was happy to have a chat and we quickly felt at home.”
Staying in a safari tent with three four-legged friends
“The tent was perfect for staying with the dogs. It's raised off the ground and has a fully enclosed veranda with plenty of shade. This meant the dogs could roam around freely without us having to worry about them running off. We could also close the tent securely at night, so they couldn't suddenly head off on an adventure of their own.
Inside, the bedrooms are separated by curtains. The dogs quickly figured that out, so they occasionally switched beds during the night. Every morning, it was a surprise to see who was lying next to us!”
What should I bring when glamping with my dog?
There are no special facilities for your dog in the safari tent, so it's important to bring everything your dog needs. Useful items include food and water bowls, a dog bed, a lead and dog waste bags.
Adventures with your dog: from paddleboarding to hiking in the Müllerthal
“Our road trip was all about hiking and stand-up paddleboarding with our dogs, and of course we continued doing just that during our camping stay! We drove to the Müllerthal for a hike, and on our final day we headed out directly from the campsite. Thanks to its green surroundings, there are plenty of opportunities to go walking with the dogs, with several routes starting right from the campsite.
There was plenty for the dogs to enjoy at the campsite too. The agility course was right next to our safari tent, so we regularly took them there to run around and play. Perfect when your dog still has some energy left after a long walk!
We didn't have to go far to cool off either. The campsite is located directly on the River Our, and just a short distance away we took our SUP out onto the water. Together with the dogs, we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon swimming, playing and simply spending time outdoors.
For us, that combination made our stay so enjoyable: heading straight into nature with the dogs, staying active together and then returning to the peace and quiet of our safari tent.”
What is glamping with a dog like at Camping Vallée de l’Our?
“We mainly chose this campsite because of its beautiful location by the water. We'd seen that there was an agility field for the dogs, but apart from that, we didn't really know what to expect. It was also my first time staying in a glamping tent, so secretly I wondered: would it really feel like luxury camping, or would it still be a bit uncomfortable?
I've completely changed my mind about that! The atmosphere at the campsite and the comfort of the tent really surprised me. The lovely atmosphere and the luxury of the tent made one thing certain: my first glamping experience definitely won't be my last!”
