In mid-August, Lotte headed off for a few days away with her husband and their four-year-old son, Léo. For their short glamping holiday, they travelled to Forest Resort Lanaken, where they stayed for two nights.
The family stayed in a luxurious 6-person safari tent, surrounded by the greenery of the campsite. For Léo, the adventure started as soon as they arrived: with several beds to choose from, deciding where to sleep was of course an important first task! After that, he could play outside and explore the campsite while Mum and Dad enjoyed the peace and outdoor life.
Comfortable family glamping
“What I really liked was that you get the true camping experience without having to give up all the comforts. I definitely enjoy camping, but I have to admit that having your own bathroom and toilet is a real luxury! Being able to cook our own meals was also very convenient, and everything we needed was there.
And the beds? They were really comfortable! All three of us slept wonderfully. The campsite was very peaceful, so we hardly heard anything in the evenings or at night.”
The veranda in front of the safari tent quickly became another family favourite. After a day out together, it was the perfect place to end the evening: enjoying a drink, playing a game and looking back on the day.
Peace, space and plenty of fun
“One of the first things we noticed was that Forest Resort Lanaken isn't overly large, but has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, making it ideal for a holiday with children. There's a playground next to the restaurant, which was perfect for us: Léo could play while we kept an eye on him from the terrace. There's also a swimming pool, although unfortunately it was just a little too chilly during our stay.”
Exploring the area together
The campsite is located close to nature. Several walking routes start directly from the campsite, and bikes are also available to hire. One of their trips took them to Maastricht, where they walked across a suspension bridge and the Passerelle de Caestert. Afterwards, they explored the city centre – and of course, a little shopping couldn't be missed!
Another place Lotte recommends is Domein Pietersheim, where you'll find a great combination of nature, animals and play. There's a large playground and a petting zoo. Léo especially loved the gnome trail. The 3-kilometre walk includes plenty of playful challenges and things to discover along the way.
“For us, it was a really lovely combination: you can escape the hustle and bustle and get closer to nature while still having all the comforts within easy reach. Even though we were only there for a short time, we still managed to do quite a lot.”
A glamping holiday to remember
“Before we left, what we really wanted was a few days of quality time together as a family. A chance to get away, have no obligations and simply enjoy being together before the school year started again.
And that's exactly what we got.
What we love about glamping is that you get the feeling of camping and being close to nature. You can sit outside on your terrace, enjoy a drink in the evening and play a game together. At the same time, you don't have to compromise on comfort: you have your own bathroom and toilet, a kitchen and comfortable beds. For us, that's the perfect combination.
And perhaps the fact that Léo is still talking about it says it all!”
