Cheer on the cyclists during the Fietselfstedentocht

There is also plenty to experience in the north of the country during the Whitsun weekend. On Whit Monday, the Fietselfstedentocht cycling event takes place in the centre of Bolsward. This year marks the 115th edition of this popular event! The cycling tour attracts so many enthusiastic participants each year that places are now allocated through a lottery. Every year, more than 15,000 cyclists take part in this fantastic cycling event. Participants cover an impressive 235 kilometres through the beautiful province of Friesland, with Bolsward serving as both the starting and finishing point. Registration closes in December, but it is of course just as much fun to watch the cyclists in action and cheer them on! With a snack and a drink, you can enjoy the lively and welcoming atmosphere around the finish line.
